Have you ever wanted to see the Earth from outer space? Or take in the universe while enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime spacewalk?
Well, a Kickstarter campaign from a company called Overview One would make these seemingly impossible dreams a reality.
The campaign, which has a pledge goal of $500,000, plans to launch a 3-D, 360-degree camera into space. The footage from the camera would then be broadcast through virtual reality headsets that give users the feeling of being in outer space.
Overview One draws its name from something astronauts refer to as the “overview effect” – the overwhelming realization that our planet is just one tiny sphere floating in an incomprehensibly vast ocean. It’s often the way astronauts feel upon seeing the Earth from above.
For its part, Overview One wants to deliver this sensation to “the other seven billion” of us who will likely never become astronauts or leave planet Earth. The company has partnered with NASA astronauts, scientists, and engineers, as well as NanoRacks, the company that will transport Overview’s camera to the International Space Station.

Should the Space Station camera project prove successful, Overview One has other ideas in the works as well, including sending a virtual reality camera to the moon, landing a virtual reality camera on an asteroid, and launching a virtual reality camera system into orbit around Earth.
