It’s the most anticipated video game launch of the year and its creators have their sights set on breaking records.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a first-person shooter in a class of its own.
For devoted fans that took part in midnight launches, sleep will prove elusive in the near future.
“It feels really good, actually. I’m going back home and I’m just going to play the campaign for a bit until I fall asleep with the controls in my hands.”
At a blockbuster launch in central London, Activision UK’s Managing Director, Peter Hepworth, said he hopes this title can surpass its predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops, as the fastest-selling game of all time.
“So last year it was the biggest entertainment launch, it went on to be the biggest game of all time and, of course, we’ve got great hopes for this year. Some of our retail feedback, we take pre-orders of the game and the pre-orders are looking really strong so we’re looking forward to it.”
On average, more than 19 million people play Call of Duty online each month, and over 6.5 million play it each day.
Bottom line: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 looks set to become the fastest-selling video game of all time after it went on sale at midnight on Tuesday.
