After months of anticipation from eager fans and investors, Apple unveiled its new iPhone with a faster chip, a more powerful camera, global roaming and more.
Apple Senior Vice President, Phil Schiller, made the announcement.
“People have been wondering how do you follow up a hit product like the iPhone 4? I am really pleased to tell you today about the brand new iPhone 4S.”
Sascha Segan, of PCMag.com, says the iPhone 4S just stays the course for Apple… it’s not a surprise.
The outside looks the same as the iPhone 4. The main change is inside – the A5 chip that gives third-party developers like game designers more power and speed. But what caught most people’s attention was the phone’s voice recognition software.
“What’s the weather like today? ‘Here’s the forecast for today.’ It’s that easy.”
The iPhone 4S, a souped-up version of the iPhone 4, disappointed many – from users to Wall Street – because it’s missing the dazzle of a completely new device that many were expecting.
“They really let people believe through all these different channels that there was going to be an iPhone5. And so when there was no iPhone5 people were disappointed.”
Segan says the iPhone 4S will be a good placeholder for six months to a year, but with steep competition from Android phones, Apple’s next phone needs to be a blockbuster.
Bottom line: Apple unveils its new iPhone, but many were disappointed it was the iPhone 4S, not the much anticipated iPhone 5.
