Fitness Trend Alert: Brain Workouts Are the New “Tai Bo”
Forget working your muscles out at the gym. A new gym in Helsinki recently opened that’s the perfect fit for lazy people, since it works a very different muscle: your brain.
If the idea of a “brain workout” brings back bad memories of flashcards and daily spelling tests, don’t worry. The new gym, called BRIIM, focuses on innovative ways to exercise that already overworked think machine.
Activities range from a linguistics bar where you can learn new languages, to Aivobics, where you focus on a single action using various games and tools.
The idea is this teaches your brain to remember, something multi-tasking in today’s world is taking from us, according to “personal brain trainer,” Reidar Wasenius…
“We are living in a society where companies are really… demanding from people to remember in the short term things in daily life, but also to study things, so memory is being overloaded.”
The question is, does it work? Well, participant Heidi Tete, is a believer…
“I think it’s great that there is an area where you can focus and train your mind without any interruptions. It’s great for your mind when you are doing one task after another and really seeing how you mind can stretch.”
And if the idea of working out your brain still sounds like too much work for you, you’d be happy to know that participants are lying down most of the time.
