Trial Vaccine Stops Dengue Fever in its Tracks

French pharmaceutical company, Sanofi Pasteur, says it’s poised to become the first to produce a vaccine that will combat dengue fever – an often fatal infection that afflicts tens of millions of people around the world.

A series of trials that began in Thailand are now near completion in Mexico, and the company says the results are extremely promising.

The testing, in its final rounds, is taking place primarily on children, who are among the most fatally susceptible to the fever. Sanofi Pasteur’s Infections Specialist, Fernando Noriega, says:

“The vaccine is safe and it does not have adverse side effects like other vaccines that have been registered.”

And although neither the chemical formula, nor its workings have been made public yet, Sofia Pasteur is confident that it will gain official approval.
